BEFORE Registering for a Virginia Specialty Course
For all Virginia specialty courses (HIC, RBC, CIC, H/H) you MUST already have DPOR pre-approval and your PSI exam scheduled within a few days of class. For Maryland MHIC, you need PSI approval and a PSI exam date within a few days of class. (For specifics for each course, please review the information in each course section.) Not sure where you are? Business & Law / Class A & B Exam Prep
The core exam required for all Class A and Class B Virginia contractor licenses. Covers exactly how the exam is structured and how to navigate the codebook efficiently.
Before Registering: We strongly recommend that you have your multi-part exam (Virginia, General and Advanced) scheduled for 2-5 days after the class date.
Home Improvement Contractor (HIC) Exam Prep
Targeted preparation for the HIC 'umbrella' specialty exam. Covers the needed varied specialty subject areas, specific code sections and best practices tested on the HIC exam.
Requirement Before Registering: You MUST 1) have DPOR pre-approval and 2) have your PSI exam scheduled for within a few days of class.
Residential Building Contractor (RBC) Exam Prep
Prepares you for the RBC specialty exam — covering new construction and larger residential projects. Focused on the specific sections and patterns on the RBC exam.
Requirement Before Registering: You MUST 1) have DPOR pre-approval and 2) have your PSI exam scheduled for within a few days of class.
Commercial Improvement Contractor (CIC) Exam Prep
Targeted preparation for the CIC specialty exam. Covers the needed specialty subject areas, Virginia commercial contracting code sections, and exam structure for the CIC specialty.
Requirement Before Registering: You MUST 1) have DPOR pre-approval and 2) have your PSI exam scheduled for within a few days of class.
Highway / Heavy (H/H) Contractor Exam Prep
Comprehensive preparation for the H/H specialty exam — one of Virginia's most complex specialties. Focused on technical sections with exam navigation strategy, test logic and best practices.
Requirement Before Registering: You MUST 1) have DPOR pre-approval and 2) have your PSI exam scheduled for within a few days of class (Typically two days after the class.)
*There is a $420 deposit that will be added on checkout for the use of loaned reference materials. Upon return of the loaned reference materials, students are refunded the deposit.
