The Maryland MHIC process is different from Virginia's. You must submit your application and receive exam approval before you are eligible to take the exam. This typically takes 2–3 weeks. The Maryland Home Improvement Commission does not offer reciprocity with Virginia or any other state. Even if you hold an active Virginia contractor license, you must complete the full Maryland MHIC process and pass the Maryland-specific exam separately.
